A Juz (Arabic: جزء; called Para in South Asia) is one of the 30 parts of equal length into which the Holy Quran is divided, so that it can be read in a month.
Meaning
Juz (جزء, plural ajza') means “part”. The Quran is divided into 30 parts of about equal length, so that it can be read in a month, one Juz a day. In Bangladesh, India and Pakistan a Juz is called a Para, from the Persian word for “piece”. Each Juz is usually divided further into halves and quarters, marked in the margin of the Mushaf.
The division is about length, not meaning: a Juz may begin in the middle of a Surah. Each Juz is known by the first words it begins with — Juz 2, for example, is called Sayaqul.
A Juz a day
Because there are 30, many Muslims read one Juz each day of Ramadan and complete the whole Quran during the month, and in many mosques one Juz is recited each night in Tarawih. Huffaz often revise by Juz too.

Where the two Mushafs differ
The Indo-Pak and the Madani Mushaf begin five of the Paras a few ayahs apart:
- Juz 7 (Wa Iza Sami'u): Madani Mushaf at 5:82, Indo-Pak Mushaf at 5:83
- Juz 14 (Rubama): Madani Mushaf at 15:1, Indo-Pak Mushaf at 15:2
- Juz 20 (Amman Khalaqa): Madani Mushaf at 27:56, Indo-Pak Mushaf at 27:60
- Juz 21 (Utlu Ma Uhiya): Madani Mushaf at 29:46, Indo-Pak Mushaf at 29:45
- Juz 23 (Wa Mali): Madani Mushaf at 36:28, Indo-Pak Mushaf at 36:22
Muslim Chat follows each Mushaf's own division, so the Para shown at the top of a page always matches the printed Mushaf you know.
